Good Day

Just thought I'd update after today:

Jonathan and I did some work at one of our local coffee shops today, and Bree joined us (that's right, dogs allowed in the coffee shop -- I think we're in the right place :)). She was so cute watching people come in the door, and even saying "hello" to a few. She's a good dog. Achilles stayed home.

After some more work on job applications, I went over to our friends' house (Lee and Mary Chaney) and helped them rip down a plaster wall covered in about 5 layers of wall paper (which was under the wood paneling Lee & MC had already taken down). Found out today that their home was built in 1903! That was some old plaster... Check out pictures from their blog at thespencersrowhome.blogspot.com. I even made it on their blog! I'm excited to see the progress their making on the house. It's going to look great!

After that, I took the doggies to the park while Jonathan went to a meeting with some other Real Estate students. The meeting seemed to go well, and so did the dog park, so all said, it was a good day.

Tomorrow Uncle Jimmy and Gloria come to visit -- so we'll see if I can get some pictures taken while they're up here over the next couple of days. Stay tuned!

Orioles Game

Sorry for 4 posts in 2 days... but when it rains, it pours!

Speaking of rain, Jonathan and I went for a walk yesterday afternoon with the dogs, and thought maybe we would get some bad weather, but oh well, we'll go anyway. We were about 2 miles away from home when the skies opened up and it just poured rain all the way home. It was the funniest thing -- Achilles kept trying to shake off, hoping he wouldn't get wet, but Bree was walking with her mouth open, facing sky-ward, trying to lick up all the drops. She, literally, ate it up -- to the point of skipping with glee. Until we got about half way home when she decided it wasn't really that much fun to be soaking wet. They were both pretty pathetic when we got them in the apartment and put them straight in the bathtub.

But tonight we went to our first Orioles game. We went with Lee, Mary Chaney, and Mary Chaney's father, Jay, who is in town to help with their home remodeling.

It's a beautiful stadium, the Orioles beat the Angels 16 to 6, and there were post-game fireworks! We ate hotdogs, peanuts, and cracker jacks. But I still think football is better.

Matt & Elizabeth Visit

We've had such a great time with all our visitors that I haven't been able to catch up on blogging!

We had the pleasure of spending last weekend with Matt & Elizabeth. It was definitely an action packed weekend, and I can say that we took full advantage of the restaurant week specials (3-course dinners for $30, 3-course lunches for $20). It's been fun taking people out to dinner and showing our friends/family all our favorite places -- but I think I'm crab-caked out for a good while now :).

Saturday we nixed going to the Aquarium for hanging out downtown and doing some low-key shopping. We had a beautiful evening sitting outside of at new favorite restaurant, Meli's, and thoroughly enjoyed watching all kinds of people on the street -- including the man asleep in the flower box. I wish we had taken some pictures (not of the man in the flower box)... But we did count 5 times that an older gentleman drove his for-sale Camero (right guys?) around the block with music blaring.

Sunday we couldn't quite wake up on time to go to church, but grabbed a bite to eat before Matt & Elizabeth got on the road. It was a great weekend!!

Joy and Glenn came to town

So, I didn't do as good of a job at taking pictures as I would've liked, but I'll share a few of the happenings of our weekend with the Futrells.

Thursday:

Long. For everyone. Joy and Glenn were out the door in Cary by 7:00 a.m., and Jonathan and I were up and starting our day at 6:00 a.m. I walked the dogs, Jonathan did the final touches on cleaning the apartment, then we were on our way to Georgetown to put in a few hours of work at the CHS. At lunch time, we jumped in the car to meet Joy and Glenn in Reston to have lunch with a local developer to talk D.C./Baltimore Real Estate and such. Even though we were on our way back up to Baltimore by 3:00 p.m., we still didn't beat the rush hour traffic, and it was near 5:00 p.m. before we made it back to the apartment. I was so tired I had to take a power nap before we "started" our day in Baltimore.

First, we went to a wine bar in Fells Point called V-no (shown above). It's a really cute place right on the water, and we enjoyed chatting with the owner whose sister is planning a move to Cary. How 'bout it?

Then, per the owner's recommendation, we went to dinner at a little restaurant on Ann St. called Peter's Inn. The picture to the left isn't us, but it is our table. It's set up in an unairconditioned row home -- hand-written menus that change everyday... we sat outside in the beautiful 70 degree weather and enjoyed a lovely meal. The food was quite good, so we started the weekend off on the right foot :).

Friday:
We took the dogs for a walk along the promenade in the late morning. It was pretty hot out, so everyone was hot and tired by the time we finished. Since walking worked up such an appetite (for some more than others, wink wink), we headed to Helen's Garden for lunch, which is just a few blocks over in Canton Square. Now, if Thursday night's dinner was good, we really hit the jack pot for lunch. Glenn said it was the best gyro (J-eye-row) he'd ever had, and the best "home fries" he'd ever had, but the raspberry tea wasn't that great. I'll take two for three :)! It started to rain after lunch, so we headed up to Towson Town Center (to check out the mall to take up some time before dinner ;)). I got a much needed pair of shorts, and then we headed back to get ready for dinner. Jonathan and I took his parents to Meli's for dinner. Again -- an excellent dining experience! Glenn ordered the rockfish, and it was outstanding. Joy ordered crabcakes, which are always better in Maryland, but especially good at Meli's. Afterwards, we headed to the local gelato shop to finish off the experience. Friday was a good day for food!

Saturday:
Another walk with the dogs -- this time, earlier, to beat the hot sun. At our halfway point, we stopped and ate brunch at Kooper's Tavern. The dogs were mostly good, sitting under the table (although Achilles was tempted to chase a few dogs passing by). We made our way back and then got ready to go on a day trip to Annapolis, MD. It's about 30ish minutes away from here. We had lunch at a diner where the guy couldn't quite understand that I ordered a grilled chicken ceasar wrap, and not a grilled chicken wrap, and then we fought the masses to make it over to the Naval Academy. We briefly checked out the vistors' center, saw the boats in the harbor, then decided to head back to Baltimore. Upon getting back, we were at a loss as to where to eat dinner (having planned on eating in Annapolis). So, we grabbed the Baltimore Magazine, to check their 2009 edition of "Best of Baltimore." Of course you have to eat seafood in Baltimore, so we went to the restaurant ranked "Best Seafood in Baltimore." Well, I think they were lying. Fortunately, Glenn's rockfish was good (yes, two nights in a row), so we didn't have any really unhappy campers, but it was commedy of errors before we could just say "you win some, you lose some" and head in for the night.

Sunday:
Back to Meli's for brunch after I walk with the dogs -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Except we got the new waitress. Not quite the rave reviews as from Friday night, but the food was very good, again.

Then off they went! Back to Cary, North Carolina.
